A UAN is a 12-digit account number issued to everyone who contributes to the EPF. This article describes the UAN login procedure and how this number can be utilised.

According to the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act of 1952, companies with 20 or more employees are required to register with the Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). Under the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) programme, an employee is required to contribute 12% of the basic salary. The employer must contribute to the employee’s account a maximum of 12 percent of the employee’s salary.

Members of EPFO are assigned a Universal Account Number (UAN) with 12 digits. It facilitates employee access to and management of their EPF account. Learn details regarding EPF applicability and how to generate and activate a UAN.

All EPF-related information and services are accessible via your UAN login. This post will explain how to access your EPF account using the EPFO member login.

You can accomplish the following with your UAN login:

  • Download EPF Passbook.
  • Download the UAN card.
  • List previous member IDs
  • Enter KYC information
  • Verify eligibility for an online transfer claim
  • Edit personal data

How do I find my UAN for UAN login?

At the time of a company’s initial EPF registration, EPFO assigns a unique UAN to every employee. If the business has been registered through the Shram Suvidha Portal, this can be done through the EPFO employer portal. The employer must take the following steps to register an employee for UAN.

  1. Navigate to the UAN website.
  2. Click ‘Know your UAN’ under ‘Important Links’ on the screen’s right side.
  3. Enter your mobile phone number and a captcha to verify your identity. Click “Request OTP” once you’ve completed this form.
  4. You’ll receive a six-digit OTP via SMS. Enter the OTP and then click “Validate OTP.”
  5. Click ‘OK’ to continue if the OTP validation was successful.
  6. You will be prompted to enter your name, date of birth, Aadhaar number, and a captcha in the required information and click “Show UAN.”
  7. (Instead of Aadhaar, you can use your PAN or member ID to determine your UAN.)
  8. The seventh step involves displaying your global account number. You can also ask your employer or check your pay stub for your UAN.

UAN Generation

A new UAN will be created for the employee, which may be associated with the PF account. To avoid duplication, the employer must collect valid documents such as proof of identity, address, bank information, and permanent account number (PAN) for registration during employee onboarding, in both soft copy and hard copy, for future reference. The employee must inform their new employer if they already have a UAN.

The employer must provide UAN numbers to employees. If they do not, an employee can obtain their UAN with their Member ID, PAN, and Aadhaar by visiting the EPFO website and following the instructions below.

  1. Visit Member Home
  2. Click the link “Know Your UAN Status.”
  3. Enter the pertinent data (PAN or Aadhar, or Member ID)
  4. Click “Obtain Authorization Pin” to receive an OTP on the registered mobile phone number.
  5. Enter OTP to receive an SMS containing the UAN and its status

Initiation Of UAN

The following steps must be taken for an employee to activate UAN through the UAN member portal:

  1. Access the UAN eSewa portal
  2. Select the link “Activate UAN”
  3. Enter pertinent data (PAN or Aadhar, or Member ID)
  4. Click “Obtain Authorization PIN” to receive an OTP to the registered mobile phone number.
  5. Enter OTP and click Activate UAN to make UAN active.

The member will receive a password via their registered mobile phone number once the UAN activation procedure is completed.

A member can log in to MEMBER e- SEWA to access the EPF passbook service by using the UAN as both the user id and password. The UAN passbook service enables members to monitor and manage their EPF balance from their residence.

Linking Adhaar To UAN

Methodology online:

  1. Visit Member Home
  2. Login to MEMBER e-SEWA with your UAN and password
  3. Select KYC from the “Manage” section.
  4. Select “Aadhaar”
  5. Enter the necessary information (name and Aadhaar Number)
  6. Tap “Save”

The Aadhaar link is complete when the word “verified” appears alongside the Aadhaar number.

Non-Digital Method:

A visit to an EPFO branch or Aadhaar CSE is required to link Aadhaar to UAN offline (Common Service Centre). The member must submit a request form and a copy of their Aadhaar card. A text message will be sent to the registered mobile number to confirm the verification.

Since 1952, EPFO has made great strides. UAN is one of the measures that have been taken to facilitate EPF claim settlement, in addition to social security services.

FAQs

Q: Will you have to reapply for the UAN if you change jobs?

Q: Why would the UAN want to include previous user Credentials?

A Universal Account Number brings together all of a person’s MAINs in one place. On Form-11, workers would be required to provide either their previous Member ID or their UAN.

Q:  Is the application for UAN completely free?
